Solipsism Syndrome and The Artist

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 20, 2006, 3:43 PM
Hmm,

So, I've written quite a few pages of my Solipsism Syndrome story... still no name for it yet, annoyingly (I don't know why, but having a title helps me write) but I've also gotten distracted - I found the first draft of a piece of work entitled "The Artist" on my Hard Drive today - it's a piece I was writing just before Christmas about an artist (surprisingly!) living in a dystopian world who withdraws from the grim reality outside his door. He paints a beautiful painting, a representation of paradise lost. The world as he wishes it were. In order to paint this vision, he has to disconnect from everything else. So he stops going outside his rat-infested apartment, runs out of food, stops eating. His obsession with finishing the painting before he is again corrupted by the outside world leads eventually to his death just as he has completed the final brushstroke.

Now, the thing is, I love the STORY, but I'm not happy with the WRITING. So... I want to go back and do another draft. But I don't want to lose the thread on my Solipsism story. Dilemma.

*sigh* ah well, we'll see where they both go.

Writing Again

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 19, 2006, 3:41 PM
So, I started writing something new today. I haven't got a provisional title for it yet, which is a shame. It's a short story about a man suffering from the onset of Solipsism Syndrome and the consequences that the increasing feeling of unreality has on his life.

It'll probably end in a tragedy, but I don't know at the moment. I'm not the sort of writer who knows where the story is going before I finish it.

It's good, because I haven't been able to write anything for a very long time :)

Anyway, I'll see how it develops. If I feel like it's making good progress, I'll post the initial work on here.

Take care, all.

Another day in the life of Stephen

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 20, 2006, 6:09 AM
Hey,

So, I got that job as IT Manager in London next year :S Crazy but cool. Now I have to find a flat at a reasonable price which is going to be pretty hard I think. Joe also has a London based job so we're going to look for a place together, maybe in Croydon/Bekenham as it seems reasonably priced (for the south anyway!)

In other news I continue to be swamped by ridiculous amounts of work and stuff for the student cinema. You'd never know I wasn't chairman any more by the amount I'm doing! Being Film Booking Projectionist is almost as busy! Still, I shouldn't complain - I love Flix :D

Anyways, I'm hoping to get some more dA stuff on (as I said before) but it'll probably have to wait until the easter period. Thankfully that's at the end of this week. w00t!

Stress and stuff

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 7, 2006, 12:45 PM
Wow. I meant to do stuff for dA this week but life interrupted.

I had so much coursework to do last week, it's been crazy. I also had an interview in London on Friday for a placement year job (as an IT Manager no less) - I think it went pretty well, they asked me back for a second interview today.

Anyways, with all that and trying to sort out the film list for the student cinema in the summer term, I've not had much time to myself.

I also went home at the weekend to visit the cats. Oh, and the folks ;)

And I've missed too many lectures over the past week. Ho hum.

No posts in an age...

Wow, I haven't posted in so very long.

It's incredible how you can look at the dA homepage and click a deviation which takes you to someone's page that makes you want to start posting again.

That happened to me tonight. I plan to do some more work soon. I'm not yet sure whether I'll be posting photos, manipulations, or writing. I have a couple of short story ideas but they need some work.

In the meantime watch this space.
